Section 1: Real Life Influences
Before we delve into creating an imaginary world, we must understand the importance of using real life influences as a base. No one can imagine anything not based on real life.
The best way to start creating or to fine-tune an imaginary world is to find influences from our world to be inspired from.
If a fantastical world has cargo full of imaginary species and magic or alternate laws of physics, the reader needs something, at least a few principles, that are the same as Earth’s so that they have grounding in your story. There’s a fine balance, as many wise writer types will say between patronizing and keeping your audience in the dark enough that they want to know more. The correct balance allows them to understand without confusion while being drawn on through the book by suspense.

You know what? I'm still drawing and writing and taking photos like usual. I just haven't felt super engaged with Deviant Art in a long time. Not a lot of people I personally know actively post art/writing here anymore. And, as much as I love DA, I feel like it's closed off from other, non-Deviant friends of mine. For example, when I post a link to my DA submission from facebook, they have to create a DA account in order to show their appreciation easily, or like the link on Facebook. I'm not getting their feedback through DA.
Does anyone feel the same way? Has anyone resolved this situation?

22,500 words!

As of May 30th, 2012, I reached 75% of my 30,000 word goal, aka 22,500 words!
I now have met the minimum percentage of my goal to pass this pass/fail college credit class. YESSSSS! I hope to actually finish the last 8,500 words by June 6th, the last day of class.
On that fated day, a local award-winning author is visiting class to talk about the business of creative writing and answer questions! Do you have any questions you would like for me to ask him?

Writing a Book in a Month

The Writing Center interview went really, really well! I'll hear back from them in 2 weeks!
I just recently joined a special 1 credit college class that is called BIAM or Book in a Month! The whole point is to complete a first draft of a novel (my goal is 30,000 words) in a month. I may not draw much for a while, but accomplishing a creative goal like this will surely teach me skills needed to update regularly and consistently in the future!
